Fourth of July Wishes

The Fourth of July, Independence Day… whichever you choose, tomorrow will be celebrated throughout the country with families and friends gathering for fireworks, barbeque, desserts, and some good old socializing.

Kids and adults alike will enjoy breathtaking fireworks displays. Who can’t help but “oooh” and “aaah” at the beautiful colors popping and bursting overhead, threads, spinners, and tails trailing through the air until they disappear into the darkened sky?

I’m a sucker for the displays. When my children were young, I sometimes thought I enjoyed the fireworks more than they did. But of course, I’ll always be a child at heart. I believe our world would be a much happier place if we try to remember what it’s like to be a child.

Watch the sky tomorrow night. Watch it light up with the hues of the rainbow. Then find a young child’s face. I’m sure it will put a smile upon your face as they’re enraptured with the sights before them. Remember what it’s like to have that fascination, that awe and that sense of wonder at something so amazing, so untouchable… and then remember the child inside you.

Enjoy your family, your friends, and especially your children. Teach them the history of Independence Day, but above all, teach them to enjoy childhood, to grasp the moment and end the day with a smile!

HAPPY FOURTH!

Lisa you are so right, It is important to teach our kids the history of independence day and that it is just not a story in the history books.

Children are wonderful because their bias's have not matured yet.

Hi, Lisa,

There is just so much from this post that I can relate to. This are my favorite lines:

"I believe our world would be a much happier place if we try to remember what it’s like to be a child."

I see this ALL the time where caretakers (myself included) are not conscious enough of the child's world and are too rapt up in their own. I try to set aside time every day to allow myself to be sily - otherwise I'll get insane.

I will definitely look at my child's face during the fireworks.

Nothing like it!

Happy fourth to you and your family-

Hi Lisa,

Boy, you hit home with this one. I was watching my grandson in the spring grass about two months ago and marveled at his joy. Such a simple thing - walking in the wet grass and picking up twigs after a storm.

Hmm...

Take care,
Judy

What a joyful blog entry. We don't have Independence day here in the UK but I could relate to what you say about childhood joy. If you could bottle it and sell it to adults, you'd be a millionnaire.

Hi, Lisa,

Tonight we'll be enjoying the fireworks from my brother's pontoon boat on the lake. Afterwards, my husband will play The Star Spangled Banner on the trumpet and the song will echo all across the water.

Happy 4th! Stay safe.
